The Wire – Season 4

_thewire.gif

Waiting for new episodes of 24, Lost and so on? Never mind those! Here’s one of the best series HBO has to offer. The 4th season already premiered on the 10th of September and aired already 2 episodes. One of the most critically acclaimed programs on air, the Peabody Award-winning drama series ‘The Wire’ continues to challenge viewers with a “cop show” unlike anything on television.

Season four of ‘The Wire’ centers on the lives of four young boys as they traverse adolescence in the drug-saturated streets of West Baltimore. The new episodes of the series examine their world through the theme of education, asking viewers to consider the world that awaits these boys, and to consider further the American commitment to equal opportunity.

I cannot recommend this enough, as well as the first tree seasons in case you missed them. An A+ series.

Silent Hill

_silenthill.gif

After seeing movies like Alone In The Dark, which should have never ever been made, I had doubts about the Silent Hill movie. Althou the games are superb and the whole idear behind them is great, a movie can turn things around. Fortunatelly it not the case cause Silent Hill is one of the best game-to-movie adaptations so far. The story is the one of the first Silent Hill with some minor differences. The monsters are awesome. They become even more creepier once you learn some of their background, like in the case of the janitor you is tied up in bard wire. The coming of the darkness is also a very well done. Long story short, Silent Hill is a two-thumbs-up movie. Highly recommended.

Death Trance

If you’re looking for a movie with meaningful plot this post is not for you, but if you’re looking for a action and awesome fight-scenes then this is the movie you want. The story is quite thin and revolves around a stolen coffin. Still, there are some nice twists to the story but that’s not where the movie shines. The while scenery has a MadMax feeling and if you add the great heavy-metall music during the fightscenes you get a quality action movie.

Samurai Fiction

_samurai_fiction.jpg

If you love samurai movies, Kurosawa espacially, this one’s for you: Samurai Fiction. This is not just a great satiric tribute to Kurosawa, but also a great action movie with quality sword fights and very good storyline. Feudal lord Kanzen Inukai receives a precious sword from the Shogun, but it is stolen by the samurai Kazamatsuri. Kanzen’s young son, Heishiro, insists on retrieving the sword himself to protect the family from the shame of losing such a precious gift. More than that would be a spoiler, so go get the movie and watch it. It’s worth every second.

Futurama Comes Back !

futurama.jpg

Comedy Central has resurrected the former Fox series Futurama, ordering 13 episodes to debut in 2008. The deal builds upon the cable channel’s acquisition of the 72-episode library last fall.

Discussions about a revival of the half-hour began in earnest earlier this year between Futurama producer 20th Century Fox Television and series creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen.

Actors Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio are onboard for the new episodes that will continue the story of the pizza delivery boy, accidentally frozen for 1,000 years, who wakes up in the future.

Futurama has traveled a course similar to that of animated series Family Guy, which also was cancelled and later brought back after DVD releases and off-network repeats grew a new fanbase.

Princess Movie

Not to much news going on about Anders Morgenthaler's movie Princess. The presentation site hits you hard with a very nice intro scene. A guy is thrown trough a window, and a little girl appears in front of him. The next thing is a bloody crowbar and some agonizing screams. Promissing :) The site doesn't offer to many stills or trailers, but it's pretty much the only place you can get some decent info on the movie. Stop by and have look, Princess just might not be an average animated movie.

Origine Movie

_origine.jpg

Studio Gonzo, responsible, among others, for Hellsing and Samurai7, is about to release on 28 June 2006 a new movie, called Origine. The previews so far look promising. 300 years in the future, the Earth is nothing but a desolated place. Humanity was reorganised but the spirits of the Forest want to take vangeance on the harm the humans caused in the past. Two ideologies confront themselfs: one of a city which wants to return to Earth former power and one of a city who seeks to live in harmony with nature. The plot is similar to animes created by StudioGibli, but this could be a very good thing. You can get some screencaps and infos on the movie homepage (in french).
