Dreamblade Miniatures Strategy Game

_dreamblade.jpg

Wizards Of The Coast is about to release a brand new miniatures strategy game called Dreamblade. The game is quite simple but fun to play. But that’s only half of the good news. The other half is the fact that a printable edition is already available online for free. You can download a map, a complete rulebook, a virtual starter set of 16 (!) creatures plus a bonus virtual booster of 7 additional figurines in PDF format ready to print & play. Of course the miniatures a paper-fold versions of the original plastic figurines and don’t come even close to their beauty. Still, I gives you the chance to play & experiment with the game before buying the plastic version. The rules are simple, only 22 page of rules incl. glossary and credits, but can lead to some complex situations, and that’s what make a game fun to play. I highly recommend you stop by the Wizards Dreamblade site and print&play.

Talvinen IconPack

talvi.jpg

It’s time for a new desktop eye-candy: Talvinen iconpack. This pack really stands out as is doesn’t feel “like MacOS” or “like Vista”. The icons are clean, stylish and very different from all the “mainstream” iconpacks out there. The pack is available for IconPackager users to apply in an instant. Download this pack and give your desktop a great look.

Eve Collectible Card Game

evetcg.jpg

CCP is hitting it hard, online and offline. The new trading card game created by the islanders looks very good on the outside. About the gaming experience I cannot say anything since I haven’t played any game yet. The rules are not that complicated and if you’re familiar with other CCGs like Magic:The Gathering, you might find them quite easy. You can now pre-order boosters and display-boxes at the Eve-Online Store. Also available are two Megapacks. Both Megapacks include a Core Set Starter Kit and a full Core Set Booster Display box! That’s a total of 471 cards! Estimated shipping date for pre-orders is at the end of July 2006, about 8 weeks before the game hits retail. The rulebook and a six card preview are available free.

Futurama Comes Back !

futurama.jpg

Comedy Central has resurrected the former Fox series Futurama, ordering 13 episodes to debut in 2008. The deal builds upon the cable channel’s acquisition of the 72-episode library last fall.

Discussions about a revival of the half-hour began in earnest earlier this year between Futurama producer 20th Century Fox Television and series creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen.

Actors Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio are onboard for the new episodes that will continue the story of the pizza delivery boy, accidentally frozen for 1,000 years, who wakes up in the future.

Futurama has traveled a course similar to that of animated series Family Guy, which also was cancelled and later brought back after DVD releases and off-network repeats grew a new fanbase.

FJAX

Fjax is the lightweight, cross-browser, rapid-development methodology for Ajax-style web 2.0 development that puts a Flash engine under the hood (not in the presentation layer – read on) to handle realtime XML/HTML content updating.

Fjax enables web 2.0 development, with true, asynchronous (x)HTML content updating without page refreshes. The trick is, it does it with less than 65 lines of code and works in most browsers. It can process multiple streams of data simultaneously, and has an incredibly small footprint (4K!).

Fjax is a simple technique that hacks through all of the complicated code often associated with this type of development by encapsulating the XML handling into a tiny Flash engine that stays behind the scenes and just shuttles data between the server and the browser window. Working in Fjax is simple, and developers can customize and extend the technique with little effort by writing their own Flash engine to suit their needs.

ReadyMech Toys

_readymech.jpg

Remember the days when you were a kid and use to play with paperfolding & glue? Here's something that will take you back. At the ReadyMech webpage you can download for free a large variaty of PDF Sheets with unfolded toys. You can just print them and start folding. The models are quite nice, having the feeling of BxH toys. Some of them have also a comic touch, like the PAL9000 inspired by the computer HAL from the movie 2001:A Space Odyssey. Not all of them are easy to fold but most certainly all are fun. They also make up for an interesting appearence on your shelf or desk.

The romanian branch of Genius3D released a teaser for their upcoming movie A Hard Life. It tells the story of a bug living in New York, trying to find his parents. The teaser is quite long, and shows that the artists at GeniusFilm are giving their best to create a quality movie. Check it out and you'll see that it is very promising.

Icon Sets: Black&Blue, Milkanodiesed

_icosets.jpg

Long time since I put up an iconset. So, to make up for that, here are two excellent packs: Black&Blue (left) and Milkanodised (right). The first set has more of a WindowsVista look&feel, the second however, and the name is a hint, is more MacOS style. The icons in both sets are very rich on detail. The sets come in IconPackager format, so applying them is very easy. Here's where you can get them:

Princess Movie

_princess.jpg

Not to much news going on about Anders Morgenthaler's movie Princess. The presentation site hits you hard with a very nice intro scene. A guy is thrown trough a window, and a little girl appears in front of him. The next thing is a bloody crowbar and some agonizing screams. Promissing :) The site doesn't offer to many stills or trailers, but it's pretty much the only place you can get some decent info on the movie. Stop by and have look, Princess just might not be an average animated movie.
